The Play Possum Jutsu is a technique Gaara could use while he was the host of Shukaku, the One-Tail. After fully transforming into Shukaku, if the need should arise, Gaara could emerge from within the transformation and, forming the Ram hand sign, could force himself asleep and allow Shukaku to take control of his replica body and fight for him. The jutsu's weakness, however, was if he was awakened, possible from his exposure to the enemy, Shukaku would be suppressed.
